Biggz interview
1. When you think about hip hop what song brings back the most memories?
Hip-Hop to me is one of the greatest forms of music, it's a very wide open genre, from the club songs that keep our heads moving, to the deeper songs, that keep our heads thinking.
Too many songs to honestly name when it comes to hip-hop. I could name albums for days, but if one needs to be named, I'd say 'Things Done Changed' by Big from 'Ready 2 Die' or possibly 'Keep Ya Head Up'
by 2Pac. Like i said, so many i'm leaving out.
2. When you are not on stage, what’s your favorite part of the day?
Creating the music would probably be my favorite part of the day, nothing compares to making such a creation, no matter if it becomes well received or not, the process is amazing.
3. You state that your music is a look into your life; do you think you will ever run out of material to make music about?
As long as i'm alive there will always be something to talk about.
4. Who is the one artist that you want to work with the most from Canada?
Hard to say, I'd like to drop a track with Drake, or back to the oldies, I'd love to do a song with Maestro Fresh Wes. We got so many great artists up here, so many i'd love to collab with.
5. How much time do you dedicate to your music, and creating it?
As much as I possibly can, it's a huge part of my life. It's what I want to do with my life, and like anything else in life, you gotta put the hard work and effort into it to get back what you've put in.
6.What is your first memory of music, and where does that love of music stem from? What is the first song you can remember hearing?
My first memory of my music is with hip-hop, Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle, and from there one exploring and listening to as many people in the genre of possible. The memories also include
the oldies, such as Michael Jackson, Prince, Ozzy Osbourne, and countless others, I'd say the love of music stems from listening to albums such as, Michael Jackson "Thriller". Prince "Purple Rain",
2Pac "All Eyez On Me", Big's "Ready 2 Die" and countless others that have influence and molded my tastes and music into what it is.
7. So to date how many tracks have you either created or produced?
On the verge of probably 300 tracks I've made for my own projects and others I've been involved in.
8. What's your outlook on the Canadian music industry today, how can it be improved?
When it comes to the Canadian music industry, I think we are on our way to improving rapidly. Our artists are starting to break into our counterparts to the south. Which seems to be what is helping
us get to where we deserve to be. Looking at Drake with the Young Money camp, our Provinces own Classified, and countless other artists starting to make it in the industry. And I'm very glad to
see such things happening, where just a few years ago you wouldn't see a Canadian artist on the music TV channels. So with asking how it can be improved, I think we are already on the right track
to do just that.
9. Lately what musical styles do you find yourself most drawn to as a listener? (Old or new music? Music like yours or similar to yours?)
As a listener and a fan of hip-hop, first and foremost that is what i enjoy listening to. With that said, I'll say the 90's rap is what captures me the most. Along with the oldies still being
jammed to. From pop, to funk, and recently being introduced by my girlfriend to grunge, and being very captured by Nirvana and their unplugged cd from MTV. It's too hard to listen to just hip-hop/rap,
I still need to go back and listen to alot of other stuff, it's like a refreshment, and also lets me go back and appreciate the music I feel in love with, and could never turn my back on.
10. What would you be doing if you weren’t a musician? Are there any other talents you have besides rocking the mic?
Honestly, if I wasn't a musician, i'm not sure what I would be doing, there is a reason I started doing what I am doing. I'm sure I'd find something to do, but the passion would not be the same
as what I am now doing, when I chose to do this, I chose it because of where the music puts me, not just as an artist, but from the listener perspective. So I'm not sure what I would be doing
but it wouldn't be like what i'm doing now.
Shout outs?
I'd like to thank you for this chance to be interviewed, giving us upcoming artists a chance to show off not just our music, but where we are coming from to get to this point. I'd like to let the readers know I will be dropping a new mixtape 'Scotian Swag Volume One' in the New Year. And to support our upcoming Canadian Movement, and also our east coast Scotia Movement. If you want to check
